On Friday we started constructing a marble run in Tōtara 27. We started out by watching a clip o n YouTube called Creme that Egg - you can see the clip below. After discussions about momentum and gravity (and what would be possible to achieve in an afternoon) we started by finding out different ways to join the tubes. each join had to be smooth so the marble wouldn't get stuck, and pass the shake test. We had several trial runs to sort out design/build issues. I was very impressed with everyone's problem solving and am certain we have some budding engineers in the hub. Well done kids.
Today as part of our 'Build It' inquiry we read the story "The Impossible Bridge" The children then researched the 5 main types of bridges: Beam, Arch, Truss, Cable Stayed and Suspension. In small groups they then constructed a bridge joining two tables - see if you can see the type of bridge they decided on!
