The Year 3 and 4 poetry competition is coming soon and everyone needs to choose a poem to present to their class. The best performances (2 from Year 3 and 2 from Year 4) will then go on to represent their class at the finals. Your poem choice should be one that you enjoy and can learn off by heart. It should be a step up from the poem you chose last year. Props are allowed, but they should be kept to a minimum and not distract the audience from the poem itself. We suggest you discuss your poem choice with your teacher as soon as possible so they can check it is suitable and give you some pointers. Check out the competition finalists from last year to get some inspiration here.
Here is a rubric showing what we will be looking for. Aim for a '3' in each category. You will get some time to practise this at school, but you will also need to work on this at home. We have also included some links below (just click on the image) that you might want to check out, or you may already have a poem in mind - maybe a family favourite or one we have already done in class. If you want to write your own poem, have a chat with the teacher first.
And remember, as Gru says "Less like a zombie."
