We are working on our Pepeha and learning about place names in Aotearoa. How many places have you been to? If you want to learn more, click on this link.
I think we have a class of spiders! Great climbing skills were in evidence this morning when Tōtara 25 went to Clip'n'Climb. It was great to see so many of you challenging yourselves and persevering with the tricky (or scary) walls.
We have been on wombling duty with our buddy class Ōtākaro 20 and thought we would have a look at the type of rubbish being left lying around to pollute our environment at school. We made a real-life pictograph with the rubbish we collected on Wednesday and were disappointed to see how much we had to clean up. The largest quantity was gladwrap and muesli bar / cracker packets. It is worrying that rubbish dropped on the ground can get washed into our drains, rivers, and eventually into the sea where it endangers marine animals and us! We talked about how we could reduce the rubbish by not bringing it in the first place. Instead we could use reuseable packaging or containers and encourage everyone to think about reducing the rubbish they generate.
We were excited to discover that the chrysalis of one of our monarch butterfly caterpillars had turned black. Shortly after morning tea it had become transparent and we could see the wings of the butterfly within. Very quickly after that it hatched and we got to experience the magical metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly. Gisele and Evie have created a video to share.
