Today Pam from Oderings and Cindy from the Canterbury Horticultural Society visited us. Pam shared her knowledge of leaf cutter bees and Oderings gave us a beehive and the cocoons. Then we went outside and planted our vege gardens. Thanks to Living Earth who donated all our soil, to Steve our caretaker who picked up the soil for us and thanks to Oderings who gave us hundreds of dollars worth of plants we now have a school garden. All Tōtara hub children took part in either putting the cocoons in the hive or planting the veges. We will make a roster so families can come down to school over the weekends and the holidays to water, weed and harvest our veges:) Our pool is open and everyone is keen to get started. Tōtara Hub have sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday so please make sure you have your swimming gear at school on these days. We can sometimes fit in additional sessions, so you may like to bring your gear every day. If you don't use it, you can always leave it in your locker for the next day. Wet gear must be taken home every day to dry out.
